Melnik Pyramids
Overview
The Melnik Pyramids are rock formations located on an area of 50 square kilometers, near the smallest town in Bulgaria - Melnik.
The Melnik pyramids were declared a natural landmark in 1960. They are a unique natural formation that attracts tourists from around the world. It is believed that the pyramids were formed by the erosion of clay soil. The Melnik pyramids are still in the process of being designed and their appearance and shape continue to change over time.
Particularly interesting are the four pyramids near the village of Karlanovo - Blagoevgrad region, which look like obelisks, over 100 meters high, with bare steep slopes and inaccessible top, covered with grassy vegetation.
These fabulous natural sculptures have a variety of shapes and outlines, resembling rock mushrooms, haystacks, minarets, alpine ridges and peaks, swords, obelisks, Egyptian pyramids, Gothic temples and more.
