Late antique and medieval fortress - Borovets

Overview

Borovets Fortress is located on the ridge of Golyam Borovets Mountain, 4 km north of the village of Razliv. It is an ancient, late antique and medieval fortress that had important military and strategic significance.

The site of the fortification provided direct visual contact with other important fortresses in the region - Bozhenishki Urvich, Ostrom and Chertigrad. All these fortresses were used to control and guard important roads that passed through the region. Excavations at the Borovets fortress are still ongoing. Archaeological excavations have revealed a powerful defense system, parts of rooms and various artifacts.
