Petko and Pencho Slaveykovi House Museum - Tryavna

Overview

Coming to Tryavna as a teacher, Petko Slaveykov married the daughter of one of the famous Tryavna chorbadji Ivancho Raykov - Irina. The Slaveykov house was built around 1830. It is a gift for the wedding between Petko Slaveykov and Irina from Tryavna, who got married in Tryavna in 1853. In this small but cozy home are born the 9 children of Petko and Irina, 7 of whom remain alive: Ivan, Donka, Racho, Raiko, Hristo, Pencho, Pena. The family lived in this house until 1876. The memory of him is kept by the small table where the children learn to read and write, the baskets in which Petko carried books every time he returned. "January 25, 1853 - 25: we married teacher Petko and Irina" - wrote in his chronicle priest Yovcho from Tryavna. Their family settled in a small hereditary house in the Upper Quarter of the village, where they remained until 1876. Here, under the strict care of the mother, all the children of Irina and Petko Slaveykovi grew up. They are highly educated and intelligent personalities in the public and political life of Bulgaria in the second half of the 19th and early 20th century: Ivan Slaveykov - Mayor of Sofia in 1885, Minister of Education in the government of Petko Karavelov / from February 20 to April 24 1901 /, Member of Parliament / IV-XI Ordinary National Assembly 1884 - 1901 /; Hristo Slaveykov - Minister of Justice / 1910 - 1911 / and Member of Parliament for 25 years, Chairman of the XIV Ordinary National Assembly / 1908 - 1910 /; General of the Bulgarian Army - Racho Slaveykov and of course one of the greatest poets of Bulgaria, nominated for the Nobel Prize - Pencho Slaveykov; Donka, Raiko and Penka Slaveykovi. Visiting the house, you will feel the atmosphere of this Bulgarian home.
