Church of the Assumption village of Shishmantsi

Overview

"Assumption of the Blessed Virgin" is an Orthodox church in the village of Shishmantsi, part of the Plovdiv diocese of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

In 1892 the construction of the temple began with funds donated by Georgi Iliev. The church was completed in 1900 and consecrated in 1902 by Metropolitan Nathaniel of Plovdiv. The church building was damaged by the Chirpan earthquake and after the visit of Tsar Boris III 6,000 BGN were given for its repair.

In 2011, the Bulgarian government allocated BGN 57,000 for the renovation of the temple.
