Overview

Kalugerovo Monastery is located along the Topolnitsa River, near the village of Kalugerovo and 25 km northwest of the town of Pazardzhik. The Kalugerovo Monastery of St. Nicholas; has existed since the 11th-13th centuries, but at the beginning of the 15th century. was destroyed by the Turks. Later the monastery was restored and was mentioned for the first time in a handwritten note on a mine from 1693. In the 17th and 18th centuries. The Holy Monastery is a center of literary activity and a cell school was established there. In July 1871. Vasil Levski came to the Kalugerovo Monastery and founded a revolutionary committee consisting of: Ivan and Nikola Razhankovi, hieromonk Kiril Slepov and Teofil Beikov - teacher. Activists from the surrounding villages (Tserovo, Lesichevo, Slavovitsa, Dinkata, Karamusal, Shtarkovo, Sartharman and Dereharman) met here. Later, the monastery fraternity took an active part in the preparation and outbreak of the April Uprising (April 1876) and was therefore burned by the Turks. In the period 1906-1908. The Kalugerovo monastery was rebuilt and has been preserved to this day. Currently, the Kalugerovo Monastery is active, with only one monk residing there. A marble slab from the time of the Roman emperor Julian the Apostate (361-363) and several similar slabs from the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century are preserved in the monastery. with inscriptions in Bulgarian.
