Regatta Venue Plovdiv

Overview

The Regatta Venue in Plovdiv is a sports facility designed for rowing. It is located in the Recreation and Culture Park, next to the Plovdiv Stadium and the Plovdiv Zoo. This is the largest such base in the Balkans, where rowing competitions can be held.

The project for the grab base was made in 1984 by Sofproekt and completed in 1988. It is a canal, 2.2 km long, 120 m wide and 3 m deep. In 2011, a repair worth 1.6 million BGN. The hangars of the rowers, the locker rooms have been renovated, a new tribune is being built for about 800 spectators.

The first sod of the second rowing canal was made on September 15, 2018 by the President of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach, the President of the International Rowing Federation Jean-Christophe Rolland, the Mayor of Plovdiv Ivan Totev, the President of the Bulgarian Olympic Committee Stefka Kostadinova and the President of Bulgarian Rowing Federation Svilen Neykov.

The project is called Maritsa Ecopark, which will include 656 decares of afforestation, and the canal itself is 105 decares. Its length will be 2.1 km, with a width of 45 m. The depth will be 1.5 m. The two canals will have four connections - after the final, at 300 m, at 1100 m and at the start, as the intermediate connections are for the competitions in canoe-kayak, where there are different distances. There are also water attractions and a 37-decare lake with islands for nesting of rare and protected birds.

On August 7, 2013, a bike lane was opened on both sides of the rowing canal. It is 5 km long.
