City Ethnographic House - Kula
Overview
The ethnographic house in the town of Kula opens its doors on April 22, 2016. It exhibits objects from the life of Kula and the surrounding villages. The property in which the collection is housed belonged to the former mayor of Kula, Kircho Kostov Yonchov. The collection of the exhibition began in 2010 at the initiative of local philologist, ethnographer and public figure Emil Dichev. Currently, the collection contains about 1,000 exhibits of ethnographic value, donated by residents of the town of Kula and the villages in the municipality. In the main building, a typical Balkan house, built in the late nineteenth century, is presented a traditional town room, exhibited objects from urban life and personal belongings of the owner of the house. The yard and the adjacent buildings within the property, a barn and another house have also been restored and in them are arranged objects from the life of the inhabitants of the surrounding villages, the main crafts practiced in the Kula region are presented. The oldest item in the collection is a hand mill for wheat - chromel, which is from the end of the seventeenth century.
