Overview

The Koyunonlar Dzhamisi Mosque is the oldest dated mosque in the Eastern Rhodopes. On a cornerstone on the south wall is inscribed the year 1201 AH, corresponding to 1786-1787. It is called Ahat buba jamisi, after the revered saint, whose tomb is located in the cemetery of the village. It is visited by the population of the neighboring Allied village of Doborsko. It is believed that in place of the Koyunonlar Dzhamisi there was an older mosque built by the Koyunollar family, which is why it is still known as the Koyunlarlar Dzhamisi.

The mosque is built of stone with solder and wood. The lobby is open. The roof is supported by wooden columns with threaded capitals. The central room is rectangular, over half the space is a balcony, surrounded by a beautiful openwork railing. The mosque and the tomb are located in a large cemetery overgrown with centuries-old oak trees.
