Overview

Beautiful, recently renovated building, an impressive building located near the center of the village. A functioning religious temple, visited by believers throughout the region. A century-old oak is preserved in the yard. There were 2 trees, but one was destroyed after drying. They were declared a protected site in 1975. The age of the surviving tree is 200 years. The circumference of its trunk is 4.0 m.

Benkovski's surroundings keep many historical secrets. Archaeological and ethnographic studies of the Eastern Rhodopes / 1937-1943, Nikolay Ivanov / describe a legend that a tomb was found in the courtyard of the mosque in Benkovski, which is believed to have buried Patriarch Evtimii, but his relics were collected by local Turkish nobleman.
