Canetti House, Ruse

Overview

This is the trading house of Elias Avram Canetti, the grandfather of Nobel laureate Elias Canetti. It is located at 12 Slavyanska Street in the city of Ruse. It was built in 1898 by the Ruse architect Negohos Bedrosyan. . Canetti participated as an equal partner with DM Polikar. The headquarters of the company for Turkey is Constantinople with manager DM Polikar, and for Bulgaria - Ruse with manager EA Canetti. On May 29, 1901, the two partners separated. On July 5, 1901, the company "Elias A. Canetti & Sons" was registered in the registers of the Ruse District Court with its head office in Ruse and a branch in Varna. Today, the building is often home to informal artistic events, performances and concerts organized by the Canetti Society. The site is included in the city route "European Heritage Buildings".
