The girls' (Radino) school
Overview
The girls' (Radino) school was built in 1850. It is one of the first girls' schools in Bulgaria. It was set on fire in 1877 during the Russo-Turkish War together with the Church of St. Peter and Paul, and in 1879 it was rebuilt. After the Liberation until 1917 it was used as a carpet school, and from 1917 to 1930 due to a fire in the new school.
The girls' school, as well as many other places in Sopot, are described in the novel "Under the Yoke" by the patriarch of Bulgarian literature Ivan Vazov. On behalf of Rada Gospozhina - one of the main characters in the book, who taught in the city, comes the name Radino School. An unforgettable moment in the story is the chapter "Radini excitement", in which the annual exam of the young students and the young teacher is observed.
