Clock Tower city Dryanovo
Overview
The clock tower in Dryanovo was built in 1778.
It is a tall centric building, combined with three graduated in height dimensions and bodies. The lower part was made of coarse, untreated stone welded in lime-sand mortar, and was shaped like a four-sided prism with a square base with sides of 5 meters. 11 openings were left for lighting - 5 on the west and 3 on the east and south. There was a door on the east façade from which a wooden staircase led upwards. There was a built-in stone arch on the south facade. The lower part ends with a stone cornice covered with slabs. Above it, the quadrilateral prism became octagonal, also ending in a cornice covered with Turkish tiles. In this part was the clockwork.
There is no information about the first clock mechanism, as in 1883 it was replaced by a new one, made in Tryavna by the masters Gencho Kolev and Hristo Vassilev.
For 167 years the city clock tower towered over the surrounding buildings. Over time, cracks appeared on it, traces of past earthquakes, no restoration was carried out. In 1945 it was demolished. But for the people of Dryanovo, the clock tower is a monument in the architectural urban ensemble. That is why in 1984 it was rebuilt, near the house built by Kolyu Ficheto Ikonomov.
The preserved clock mechanism was repaired and adjusted by Iliya Kovachev - a member of the association of masters, holder of a gold belt.
