The territory of the ancient and medieval city of Augusta Trayana-Vereya in the center of Stara Zagora is proof of the rich life of the Thracians. The history of the city of Stara Zagora began with the creation of the Beroe fortress and its transformation into the ancient city of Augusta - Trayana. During the Roman Empire, the ancient city flourished as a major commercial center. The mosaics behind today's Stara Zagora Opera (on General Stoletov Street) and under the Central Post Office are remarkable. Thanks to the declaration of the area as an archeological reserve, the authentic ruins of the great city can still be seen today.
