Okolchitsa Peak
Overview
Okolchitsa Peak is 1048 m high and is located in the Vratsa Balkans, near the village of Chelopek. There, on June 2, 1876, was the last battle of Botev's detachment. In 1936-1939, in honor of the feat of Hristo Botev and his detachment, a 35-meter monument with a volunteer cross was erected. In the Yolkovitsa depression, a natural rock with an inscription carved on it, marks the place of death of the poet-revolutionary. This is the end of the national tourist march on the road of the Botev detachment Kozloduy-Okolchitsa, which has been held without interruption since 1946. Okolchitsa Peak is a favorite place of hang gliders from the country and abroad.
