Overview

The Vratsata Passage, called Vratitsa in the Middle Ages, is one of the symbols of the town of Vratsa and is associated with the name of the town. It is located on an area of ​​2 hectares and is part of the Vratsa Balkan Nature Park. The pass is a gorge of the river Leva and is rarely a beautiful and impressive rock massif. The sheer cliffs of Vratsa are the highest on the Balkan Peninsula - over 400 m and are the most popular alpine site in Bulgaria. They are divided into Central Wall, Eastern and Zgorigrad Massif. There are over 140 alpine routes with different categories of difficulty. Remains of the medieval fortress Vratitsa - X-XII century are preserved in the gorge.
