Goritsa waterfall
Overview
The waterfall is 39 m high and in its lower part forms a terrace. It can be reached by an eco-trail, starting from the upper end of the village of Ovchartsi and reaching the area of Sokolov view at 1200 meters above sea level. In addition to the large waterfall, up the river you can see six smaller waterfalls with a height of 5 - 15 meters. The waterfall is part of the water supply zone of the region and is flooded all year round, without the weather conditions affecting the water flow. The name of the river and the waterfall comes from the story of a beautiful girl from the village named Goritsa, who lived happily with her chosen shepherd Yovitsa. Rumors of the girl's beauty reached the local Turkish bey, who sent his servants to kidnap her. Goritsa fled to the mountain from her pursuers and, in order not to fall into their hands, threw herself from the rocks.
