Church of St. Archangel Michael

Overview

The village of Skandaloto is tucked away in the narrow valley of the Vidima River. It is located at 410 meters above sea level and about 7 km north of Apriltsi. The church "St. Archangel Michael" in the village was built in 1870. This is one of the few churches built before the Liberation from Turkish slavery. In order for it to be built, there is a letter of consent from the Turkish governor in Sevlievo after a request from the villagers. The people wanted to build in the area of ​​Kostina Mogila, where religious rites and celebrations have taken place so far, but they have been subject to certain restrictions. In the first place, the church should not be high, so that it cannot be seen from afar, there should be no domes and it should look like an ordinary home, and in the end - there should be no bell tower. Naturally, this was done. However, inside the church is in the shape of a three-nave basilica, and outside there are rare stone bas-reliefs.
