Overview

The church "St. George" is located in the village of Malomirovo, municipality. Elhovo. The village of Malomirovo is located in the Tundzha hilly lowland region. Its relief consists of hills (Derventa hills, Bakadzhitsite, Manastirski hills) and weakly dissected flat lowlands. Tundzha is the largest river in this region, along with its tributaries - Popovka River, Arapliyska, Lalkovska, Melnishka, Kalnitsa River, Golyamata River.

The climate of the village falls in the two climatic regions of Bulgaria - European-continental and continental-Mediterranean. Winter is mild, spring starts early, summer is hot, and autumn is warmer than spring. The snow cover lasts 10-15 days. The northern and northeastern winds are typical for this region. Southern winds, which carry warm Mediterranean air, are common.

The soil in this area is characterized by its low displacement. There are mainly three types of soils - cinnamon forest soils, chernozem and alluvial soils. They are favorable for growing cereals, hence the old name of the village - Hambarliy.

In economic terms, the main livelihood of the population is animal husbandry and crop production.

For the last few years, the current trend of settling foreign citizens, mostly English, has not passed the village of Malomirovo. The village is attractive with its beautiful nature, fresh air, ecological natural resources and tranquility.

Near the village of Malomirovo, on June 22, 813, in the Battle of Versinikia, the Bulgarian troops of Khan Krum defeated the Byzantine army of Emperor Michael I Rangave. In the vicinity of the Elhovo village of Malomirovo, the old Hambarlii, the famous and significant for our history Hambarlii inscriptions were discovered and transferred to the Varna Museum by the Shkorpil brothers. On April 13, 814, Khan Krum died in the vicinity of Malomirovo in his military camp, preparing for the conquest of Constantinople.

The church of St. George will be reconstructed soon.

A total of 20 churches across the country will receive funds for repairs and reconstruction under the Rural Development Program. The approved projects are for activities that include repair of roof structures and cladding, facade works, interior improvements, restoration of icon painting; joinery and carpentry; replacement of electrical installation; painting, strengthening and lining of bell towers; improvements in the heating and ventilation system, replacement of the water supply and sewerage in most temples, as well as laying of pavements and improvement of the spaces around them.
