Overview

Small Monastery is a village in southeastern Bulgaria. It is located in Elhovo municipality, Yambol district. A small monastery is a village located 15 km west of the town of Elhovo. Until the beginning of the XX century the village was inhabited by Greeks. The local population of Greek caryotes, numbering about 1060 inhabitants, emigrated several times - in 1906, 1914 and 1925 in Greece. Bulgarian refugees from Aegean Thrace settled in its place. Some of the karyots in 1924 settled in the market village of Zorbatovo, which in 1926 was renamed Micro Monasteries, translated as Small Monastery. The village fair is on May 1. The church of St. George will be reconstructed soon.

A total of 20 churches across the country will receive funds for repairs and reconstruction under the Rural Development Program. The approved projects are for activities that include repair of roof structures and cladding, facade works, interior improvements, restoration of icon paintings; joinery and carpentry; replacement of electrical installation; painting, strengthening and lining of bell towers; improvements in the heating and ventilation system, replacement of the water supply and sewerage in most temples, as well as laying of pavements and improvement of the spaces around them.
