Central Military Club - Sofia
Overview
The Central Military Club is located in the center of Sofia, on the crossroad of the popular Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd. (covered by its characteristic yellow pavement) and Rakovski Str. It is right opposite the Crystal Garden and the Russian Church of St Nikolay.
Construction began in 1895. The original design was by the Czech architect Antonin Kolar in the Neo-Renaissance style but was finally completed by the Bulgarian architect Nikola Lazarov in 1907.
The Central Military Club in Sofia is among the masterpieces of Bulgarian early 20th-century architecture. It is one of the earliest monumental buildings erected after the Liberation of Bulgaria from Ottoman rule.
There are 3 floors, the premises are located as it was typical for the end of the 19th century. The concert hall, richly decorated with architectural elements, occupies a central place.
The concert hall can seat 450 people. Famous singers, artists and musicians have toured on its stage: Fyodor Chaliapin, Hristina Morfova, Nikolay Gyaurov, Krastyo Sarafov, Adriana Budevska, and others.
