Medieval rock monastery Kara cave
Overview
Kara Peshtera Rock Monastery, also known as the "Monastery of the 40 Rooms", is located in the area of Provadia, and more precisely between the villages of Staroselets and Manastir. The whole area around Provadia is filled with dozens of surrounding monasteries, most of them in hard-to-reach places, but Kara Cave is designed for visits and can be reached relatively easily. The Kara Peshtera rock monastery can be reached on foot, and is accessible by car 1 km to the village of Staroselets (in the southern direction). Kara Cave Rock Monastery is a large cave with a vaulted ceiling, in which small rooms are built. Some of them are underground, whence the name-kara (meaning black in Turkish). The individual rooms are connected by tunnels.
