Medieval rock monastery Kara cave

Overview

Kara Peshtera Rock Monastery, also known as the "Monastery of the 40 Rooms", is located in the area of ​​Provadia, and more precisely between the villages of Staroselets and Manastir. The whole area around Provadia is filled with dozens of surrounding monasteries, most of them in hard-to-reach places, but Kara Cave is designed for visits and can be reached relatively easily. The Kara Peshtera rock monastery can be reached on foot, and is accessible by car 1 km to the village of Staroselets (in the southern direction). Kara Cave Rock Monastery is a large cave with a vaulted ceiling, in which small rooms are built. Some of them are underground, whence the name-kara (meaning black in Turkish). The individual rooms are connected by tunnels.
