Medieval necropolis Zmiyarnik
Overview
Thracian, Roman, Turkish and modern presence have layered culture and values in the municipality of Valchi Dol. Among deciduous forests and rich water sources, many tribes and peoples, who have left traces of their material culture, make a living here. Thracian settlements and tombs, many ceramic vessels, iron objects-applications and ornaments were found. In an old Bulgarian necropolis near the village of Karamanite in 1988, a Bulgarian-Ukrainian expedition, funded by the Municipality of Valchi Dol, discovered bronze figurines-works of early Bulgarian applied art, necklaces of glass beads and pottery. Unfortunately, the historical data on the cultural heritage have a fragmentary character, there are no systematic researches and no actions have been carried out for attractive exposition and valorization of the existing archeological materials. This, in turn, limits the possibility for contemporaries to touch the eternal values of the cultural and historical heritage of the municipality.
