Overview

Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" is the first Bulgarian university. It was established on October 1, 1888, as a Higher Pedagogical Course. The central part of the building of Sofia University, worth 6 million gold levs, was built with a donation from the brothers Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi, whose sculptures adorn its facade. The first rector of Sofia University was Acad. Alexander Teodorov-Balan.

The idea of ​​opening a higher school was born during the Renaissance. After the Liberation in 1878, the need for a cultural and educational institution that helped the development of the country increased.

Gradually, Sofia University became an important research center, a European type of university. Today Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" is the largest and most prestigious research center in Bulgaria.

The Rectorate is located at 15 Tsar Osvoboditel Blvd. The university has separate faculties of Mathematics and Informatics, Faculty of Physics, Chemistry and Biology, Faculty of Journalism, Theology, Economics, and Faculty of Primary and Preschool Education, which are located in separate buildings.
