Overview

Borovets Reserve is located near the village of Raven, Momchilgrad municipality.

It was declared by Decree №1171 of the Council of Ministers of September 24, 1951 with a natural habitat of black pine forests. It was reclassified as a maintained reserve by Order № 368 of 15 October 1999.

The total area of ​​the reserve is 35.9 hectares. The total protected area is 360 decares. It is located about 2 km from the village of Raven. A good road leads to it.

The terrain of this reserve is heavily cut - with large slopes and many slopes. The exhibition is very diverse - north, northwest, south. Its average altitude is 400 m.

The soil is cinnamon mountain with clay-sandy mechanical composition. This is a forest black pine reserve - the easternmost black pine plantation in the country. In addition to black pine, the wood composition also includes a significant amount of winter oak, less hornbeam and even less hornbeam. There are also single specimens of white pine. Rose hips, sumac, blue juniper, etc. take part in the undergrowth. The reserve has rich grassy vegetation. The average age of pine trees is 130 years, and the oldest - 180. Borovets was declared a protected site in 1956.
