Overview

Poda is a swampy area south of the city of Burgas, which includes the strait connecting Lake Mandre with the Black Sea. The name comes from a wooden raft pulled by a rope - "floor", through which it passed through the outflow of the lake. It was used until the beginning of the 20th century, when the first iron bridge was built.

The area of the area is 1 sq. Km and 262 species of birds have been observed in it. This makes it one of the richest ornithological areas in Europe. The habitats in it are divided into 3 types - with salt water, fresh water and mixed reservoirs. In numerical terms, Poda's biodiversity looks like this:

265 species of birds
18 species of mammals
15 species of reptiles and amphibians
204 species of invertebrates, of which 160 are insects
8 species of fish
231 species of higher plants
Here is the only mixed colony on the Bulgarian Black Sea coast, which consists of night heron, gray heron, red heron, maned heron, little egret, shiny ibis and white sparrowhawk. In winter in the bay of Foros, you can see the world-protected Dalmatian pelican, small cormorant, tundra swan and others.
