Tourist Garden Park - Samokov

Overview

The Tourist Garden Park is one of the largest in the town of Samokov. It is known for its coniferous trees, park facilities, and attractions. The park was established in 1903  to preserve and enhance natural beauty and provide recreational opportunities for the public. It was created on the site of the former Forestry School in the city, an idea of ​​the Czech forester, Julius Karel Milde.

In 1904 a garden restaurant opened in the park and quickly became a favourite spot for a celebratory meal or a quick drink or lunch with friends and family. The area of ​​the tourist garden has increased over the years to reach 200 decares in the 1930s. Rare forest species have been planted on its territory, among which twenty larch trees were imported for the first time in Bulgaria.

Due to the wars - the Balkan, Inter-Allied, and the First World War, the development activities in the Tourist Garden in Samokov were suspended but resumed in 1920. А large number of trees and shrubs were planted then by volunteer tourists and students.

Later, flower alleys were formed and a track in the shape of a ring, was specially designed and built for sports events. The sports facility increased the popularity of the garden. Many sports celebrations were held on the track, as well as various city events.

In 2015, High Ropes were installed in the park, called Rilko High Ropes Town. There are different routes to choose from, so people can choose their own adventure and level of challenge.
