Overview

The mission of the Municipal Cultural Institute / Museum / - Byala is to preserve and preserve tangible and intangible cultural and historical monuments, traditions and rituals in the municipality of Byala for present and future generations. The Municipal Cultural Institute / Museum / was established by decision №16-84 of 14.06.2012 of the Municipal Council - Byala. On 02.08.2012 with certificate №91 (881) of the Ministry of Culture, Republic of Bulgaria, the Municipal Cultural Institute / Museum / - Byala was registered as a cultural organization. The museum is defined by a general thematic scope, whose activity covers different areas of knowledge and art and carries out, on the basis of different in its classification, cultural activities. Since mid-2009 on Cape St. Athanasius, located 3 km. south of the town of Byala, archeological excavations are being carried out. The archeological site is multi-layered. Materials from the Classical Age to Late Antiquity have been found (6th century BC - 7th century AD). More than 120 cult pits, several household kilns, the remains of dozens of clay sacrificial hearths (eshari) and a Thracian temple - all dated to the early cultural layer (VI century BC to the beginning of the I century AD). The characteristic "Thracian cult center" for the structures in this part of Cape St. Atanas is confirmed by dozens of interesting ceramic, coin and other finds. The complete archeological research and scientific analysis of the Thracian cult center is forthcoming, but it is now clear that this is a new valuable source for the religion, material culture and trade relations of the local Thracian population.
