Overview

The National Agricultural Museum in Sofia was established in 1956. It is part of the Higher Agricultural Institute. The museum is the only institution in Bulgaria that preserves and presents an impressive collection of objects, related to the agricultural tradition in our country from antiquity to our days.

The museum tells the story of Bulgarian farming and the development of the various agricultural branches, science, and education. It brings new vitality to the history of the countryside and renders unfamiliar narratives accessible to a wider audience. It has a rich library and specialized literature.

Exhibitions seek to reconnect people with green spaces and raise the profile of Bulgarian traditional crafts. Programmes of research and collecting chart our ongoing relationship with the land that surrounds our towns and cities. These important sites look to the future and raise important questions about sustainability, the environment, and the value of our rural heritage.

Permanent thematic expositions in the museum - sheep breeding, horse breeding, plant breeding, beekeeping, veterinary medicine.

The museum is a member of the International Association of Agricultural Museums (AIMA).
