Salt museum

Overview

The museum in Pomorie is the only museum in Bulgaria and in Eastern Europe for the production of salt by solar evaporation of sea water.

The museum presents the ancient Anhial technology for sea salt production. It consists of an exhibition hall and 20 decares of salt pans, which still function today. It has a unique collection of photos from the beginning of the last century, tracing the development of malting in the area, old topographic maps, models, and authentic solar equipment and tools. Interesting videos can be seen.

The salt pans at the museum produce salt in the same way as in ancient times. Visitors can see "live" all technological operations, talk about the production with specialists, feel the authentic atmosphere of the past.

The Salt Museum is included in the 100 national tourist sites of Bulgaria.

In Pomorie, the ancient Anhialo, sea salt has been extracted since ancient times.
According to Bulgarian historians, the salt pans existed before the founding of the city (around the 5th century BC).

The Salt Museum is located in the area of ​​the old town, on the narrow strip between Pomorie Lake and the salt pans, just behind the stadium.
