Overview

The museum dedicated to Delyu Voivoda provides more and more detailed information about the voivode. The museum has a rich folklore song, similar to the Greek "Odyssey", which tells about Delyu's life from an early age, the reason for becoming a bandit, population, for the correspondence with Kurt aga and Alemin Bey, for his love for Gulsum, for the silver bullet and his death ... Thus the museum shows an image woven of legends, songs and historical authenticity. He is one of the few in the country, and perhaps the only one, to represent the bandit movement in Bulgaria on a national scale. And this movement is a prerequisite for the emergence of an organized revolutionary struggle against the Ottoman enslavers, the April Uprising and the ensuing Russo-Turkish Liberation War. It is with the haidouk movement and the historical reality in which it originates that the first hall of the Museum introduces us. This is the time of feudal fragmentation in the Ottoman Empire, the Kardzhali devastation and the constant wars with Russia. Here are presented some of the most important and beloved voivodes in Bulgarian history: Angel, Valchan, Indje and Captain Petko voivode. The second floor of the museum is dedicated to the legendary Zlatograd hero - Delyu Haidutin. Facts about his life and activity are presented, such as we know from local folklore. Authentic clothing, decorations and weapons from the time of the Duke, take us to the end of the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries. The appearance of the city from a slightly more recent time - the beginning of the twentieth century - is shown in the photographs of Zlatograd displayed here. Everyone knows that the song "Izley e Delyu haidutin" performed by Valya Balkanska flies into space, but in the new museum you can see a copy of the golden plate; tourists will understand what the diagrams and sketches depicted on it mean, what else the plate contains and what its movement in space is. In the interactive hall "Delu and Space" tourists will be able to learn more about the duke by watching a short film about him.
