Petko and Pencho Slaveykovi House Museum, Sofia
Overview
Petko and Pencho Slaveykovi House Museum is located at 138 Georgi Rakovski Street in Sofia, in the apartment of Petko Slaveykov's granddaughter, who donated it. The house is part of the National Literature Museum.
Petko and Pencho Slaveykovi House Museum was opened in 1951, and the first curator was the granddaughter. The main collection contains about 80,000 manuscripts of Petko and Pencho Slaveykov, the personal library of Petko Slaveykov (162 volumes), the personal library of Pencho Slaveykov (about 2000 volumes), 600 original photographs, paintings by prominent Bulgarian artists, furniture, belongings, ethnographic collection of ancient Bulgarian embroideries, belonging to the family.
Among the exhibits in the museum are Petko Slaveykov's watch and inkwells, his mother-of-pearl rosary, a metal cup with a saucer, gilded on the inside, with which all his children were baptized. Also - the coffee grinder and the pot used by Petko Slaveykov for brewing Turkish coffee. The museum exhibits duck feathers, which he used as writing tools, as well as many copper containers left by his father. The museum keeps the portraits of all MPs who participated in the Grand National Assembly in 1879, as well as the wooden table on which the Tarnovo Constitution was signed.
