Overview

Conceived as a monument to Georgi Dimitrov, the current building of the museum was built in the period 1953-1957. A museum collection was opened in one of the halls. Georgi Dimitrov's native house was destroyed after a flood before the Second World War. The interest in the birthplace of the great son of Bulgaria is clear from the fact that from 1957 until the eve of the 90th anniversary it was visited by more than half a million people. The high attendance, as well as the approach of the anniversary, require the rapid reconstruction of the entire monument house, which opened the large photo-documentary exhibition, reflecting the highlights of the life and work of Georgi Dimitrov. The only preserved photo from the house and the discovered foundations were used. With the most active participation of miners from Pernik, it was built for a short period and was opened on June 14, 1972. Furnished with ethnographic materials from the area, the house museum reflects the approximate appearance of the house where Georgi Dimitrov's parents lived until their relocation to the town of Radomir. In front of the monument house is a statue of Georgi Dimitrov, the work of Prof. Ivan Mandov. In the yard of the native house there is a monument to grandmother Parashkeva, made by Prof. Mara Georgieva. A new extension of the exposition is forthcoming, for which an additional hall is being built. museum in the city and the museum exposition in Radomir, dedicated to the Military Uprising and the Radomir Republic.
