Church school

Overview

The oldest church in Strandzha - "St. Luka ”is located in the village of Zabernovo. The destructive power of time seems to have stopped in this village - the melodic local dialect is preserved, traditions and holidays are preserved and alive. The hospitable hosts organize for those who want walking tours to one of the most mystical places in Strandzha - small chapels with holy springs, built on ancient Thracian sanctuaries and consecrated places.
Part of the church is also the cell school, in which knowledge-hungry male children studied mainly Church Slavonic. The teacher was hired to teach the children for food and lodging and some symbolic payment.
The "notebook" for each student was a wooden board smeared on one side with wax on which the students wrote the lesson taught. They memorized what was written and only then "flipped through the next page", heating the board on the fire and again having a clear writing field.
