Art Gallery - Smolyan

Overview

Half a century ago in Smolyan was arranged the first exhibition of 35 works, some of which are presented by the National Art Gallery for temporary use. In the following decades, the gallery enriched its holdings. The accumulated experience in the complex work of searching for, preserving and popularizing the fine arts has established her as one of the leading cultural institutes in Smolyan and the region. The art gallery was built with all the components of the museum work - exhibition halls, repositories, scientific archive, restoration studio. In the collection, which today numbers over 2,200 works, you can see works by some of the most prominent Bulgarian artists from the 30s of the XX century to the present day. The foreign section has over 300 paintings by authors from around the world, participants in the International Plein Air on Painting. We are grateful to our fellow artists and to the heirs of the artists who made donations. The gallery stands out with its specifics - the themes and plots are related to the Rhodopes. The emphasized presence of Rhodope themes, widely understood (both as nature and as historical memory, and as modernity) is characteristic of the various genre and thematic collections, which we periodically present to the public. There are many exhibitions organized by our colleagues in different villages of the region and the country. Visiting exhibitions show interesting examples of contemporary Bulgarian and foreign art. The Art Gallery - Smolyan has its real contribution to the realization of the complex connection art - spectator, in the spiritual communication between people. It occupies its rightful place among similar institutions in the country.
