Overview
The exposition, located on three floors, presents the best of its holdings, consisting of over 2800 works - icons, paintings, sculptures, graphics. The gallery has works by: Vladimir Dimitrov - The Master, Bencho Obreshkov, Tseno Todorov, Nikola Marinov, Zlatyu Boyadzhiev, Stoyan Velev, Mara Tsoncheva, Asen Vassilev, Dechko Uzunov, Vasil Stoilov, Svetlin Rusev, Georgi Bozhilov, Dimitar Kirov, Atanas Yaranov Pironkov, John Leviev.
In the exhibition halls on the first and second floors are presented paintings by Burgas artists from the beginning of the century to the present day. Here are the works of Gencho Mitev, Todor Karasimeonov, Pavel Valkov, Petko Zadgorski, Panayot Panayotov, Georgi Baev, Stoyan Tsanev, Violeta Maslarova, Nenko Tokmakchiev, Kiril Simeonov, and many others. The Burgas sea theme in the paintings of the artists creates a unique atmosphere and style.
The gallery hosts exhibitions and collections owned by other art galleries in the country and abroad.
On the third floor is presented a permanent exhibition of Strandzha icons, dating from the XVII to the beginning of the XX century. It shows the specific appearance of the spiritual culture in this area, which has preserved its national identity in difficult historical conditions. The icons “St. Elijah ”- XVII century,“ John the Baptist ”- XVII century,“ St. George ”- XVIII century,“ St. Modest ”- XVIII century,“ St. St. Constantine and Helena ”- XVIII century,“ Virgin Hodegetria ”- XVII century and others.
The names of the icon painters have been read: Zahari Zograf, Dimitar Zograf, Ioan Zograf from Ahtopol, Socrates Georgiev from Sozopol, Todor Zograf from Chios, Nikola Zograf from Edirne. Today the Burgas Art Gallery is an important cultural center of the city.
