Art Gallery, Kazanlak

Overview

Apart from the magic of the oil-bearing rose and the richness of Thracian art, Kazanlak is also famous as a city of artists. Many of the best artists in Bulgaria were born here: Petko Klisurov, Ivan Milev, Ivan Penkov, Dechko Uzunov, Nenko Balkanski, Vasil Barakov, Mara Yosifova and others. Accordingly, Kazanlak has one of the oldest and richest art galleries in the country.

In 1901, the Museum of Antiquities and Arts was founded in Kazanlak, where the earliest art collection in the country was created.

The period 1930-1958 was fruitful when the director of the gallery was the artist and writer Dimitar Chorbadjiiski - Chudomir, who managed to enrich the collection.
