St Ivan Rilski church, Sofia

Overview

St Ivan Rilski church was built in 1903 in the beautiful park of the Sofia Theological Seminary and is dedicated to St Ivan Rilski, the Miracle Worker, a holy protector and defender of the Bulgarian people.

The St. Ivan Rilski church is one of the most beautiful churches in the city.  In 1951 the old wooden bell tower was replaced by a new one which is now located to the left of the church entrance. The bell tower shelters four differently sized bells, the largest one of which weighs 100 kg.  The church is a preferred venue for wedding ceremonies to take place.

The students of the Theological Seminary attend all church services in order to acquire practical knowledge in worship.
