Historical Museum - Exposition "Renaissance" (House "Georgiadi")
Overview
The Historical Museum in Plovdiv is presented with 4 large departments, established in different years and united in 1993. They trace the historical past of Plovdiv and the Plovdiv region from the early Ottoman period (XV-XVII centuries) to the present. The exposition "Bulgarian lands in the XV - XIX century and the era of the Bulgarian Revival" was established in 1954 and is housed in the house of the rich Plovdiv merchant Dimitar Georgiadi. It was built by the Rhodope master Hadji Georgi Hadjiiski in 1848. Its owner, the rich Plovdiv merchant abadji Georgi Kendindenoglu, bequeathed it as a dowry to his daughter Elena, married to Dimitar Georgiadi. The exposition presents the early Ottoman period (15th - 17th century) and the resistance of the local population against foreign rule. Special attention is paid to the Renaissance. In separate halls you can see documents, personal belongings and valuables related to the great personalities of the city. The development of the national liberation movement, led by Rakovski, Levski and Botev, was followed. The lounge and rooms on the second floor impress with original carvings and rich decorative murals.
