Overview

The late antique peristyle residential building "Eyrene" with floor mosaics is one of the most remarkable buildings in ancient Philippopolis.

THE LATE ANCIENT RESIDENTIAL BUILDING EIPHNH is a cultural monument of national and world importance.

The peristyle residential building with polychrome floor mosaics is "in situ" and is located in the representative core of the late ancient city of Philippopolis - at the foot of the Ancient Theater, near the Roman Stadium, the Odeon and the Episcopal Basilica. It is part of the Cultural Center-Museum "Trakart", which is a public-private project.

The floor mosaic, located in the central room of the building with the female image with the inscription EIPHNH, dates from the III-IV century AD. In the representative part of the building all rooms have polychrome floor mosaics, where a wide range of colors and shades is used in the geometric and figural images. In the representative part of the building / living room / there are two medal-compositions.

The mosaic composition in the western square of the central room of the building consists of an inscribed circle with a large polychrome mosaic rosette placed in it, filled with small triangles. In the center of the rosette is an image of a vase - cantaros in a small round medallion.

An octagonal marble structure - a fountain - was built above the northern square mosaic panel, located above a drainage channel. On its northern side, in the mosaic is inscribed a congratulatory inscription-message "Welcome and happy stay with Peace", inscribed at the base of the marble fountain.
