Iskar Panega Geopark

Overview

"Nature is in us and we are in it" - this sentence is the basis of the idea for the creation of the first in Bulgaria GEOPARK "ISKAR-PANEGA" in the municipality of Lukovit. It includes two neighborhoods - Karlukovo Karst Complex and Panega Roadside Landscape Park.

The geopark is a sustainable tourist product of geological, geomorphological or paleontological sites of aesthetic or cultural-historical value.

It unites the available natural and historical features of the territory of the municipality and increases their attractiveness for both locals and tourists. As a complete product, Geopark offers educational and information programs that aim to increase the interest of local residents and visitors in the preservation of inanimate objects in the region and ensure the creation of sustainable jobs. The main task of the geopark is to stimulate the development of geotourism and to preserve the geological and geomorphological heritage for future generations.

PANEGA ATTRACTION was opened in 2020 in the heart of Panega Landscape Park.

The neighborhood includes a picturesque eco-trail and is part of the first in Bulgaria geopark "Iskar-Panega". It is located only 1 hour drive from Sofia, just before the entrance to the town of Lukovit.

PANEGA ATTRACTION is open all year round and offers a walk on the river Zlatna Panega with:
water wheel;
rowing boat;
single kayak;
two-seater kayak;
boat and photo cruise.

The route provides an adventurous experience and coolness, away from the daily urban rhythm. A real celebration for the senses are the unique views of lush greenery, meandering emerald waters, majestic rock formations and slopes. The natural paintings are perfectly complemented by numerous wooden bridges, gazebos and shelters. And the encounter with a swarm of dragonflies, beautiful swans, wild ducks, owls, herons and a protected species of bald eagle with generations of history, make the experience unforgettable.
