Gorni Bogrov Monastery "St. George"
Overview
The Gorni Bogrov Monastery is located in the village of Gorni Bogrov near Sofia, on the main road Sofia-Varna.
The monastery was built in the early nineteenth century, and in its altar was placed a huge stone with a cross, which according to legend was brought by the coming crusaders from Jerusalem. Later, the locals decided that the place was sacred and a temple should be built. Until its construction, the stone was kept as a symbol of the Christian faith.
Today the monastery represents a complex of several residential buildings and a small church built on the foundations of an old temple. Next to the church is the newly built chapel "St. Stephen".
In the yard of the monastery, in contrast to the old buildings, there is a newly built fountain, and next to it - two monuments dedicated to the soldiers who died in the wars for the national unification of Bulgaria.
