Ancient Serdika - The Western Fortress Wall - Sofia
Overview
The northwestern fortress wall is built in a mixed construction of semi-worked and unworked river stones, leveled by rows of bricks. In the VI century under Emperor Justinian I, the fortress was further reinforced with an additional outer wall. It is believed that the city walls reached a height of 12 m, so Serdica was a very well-protected city center.
