Overview

The symbol of the town of Elena is the Clock Tower, which is situated at the highest place in the center of the town. Its location was chosen to be seen and heard from every part of the town.

It was built in 1812 by an unknown master from Elena and it was one of the first clock towers in the country. The clockwork and the bell were bought by Feizi Aga. The bell was cast in Gabrovo, as evidenced by the inscription on it.

The tower consists of three parts. The lower stone part is on a square foundation, 12.5 meters high, and is illuminated by narrow mules. The middle part is an octagonal prism with copper-plated walls. In the middle is the clockwork. The upper part is again with a square foundation of a very light wooden structure, open on all sides. The bell hangs here. The roof is conical, lined with copper sheet metal, and ends with a spike with four lead balls.

The tower was repaired in 1857 or 1858 by the famous Elena master Tsoncho Ustabashi, it was repaired once again in 1953 and completely restored in 1987.
