Yuri Gagarin Astronomical Observatory
Overview
Born of the enthusiasm and desire of society to be sympathetic to space, in our country there are unique institutions for disseminating the achievements of astronomy and astronautics. They become natural centers for those addicted to the science of the universe - people of all ages who study and make astronomical observations, contributing to the development of science. These institutions for popularization of scientific achievements, for astronomical education and doing science at a professional and amateur level for astronomers from broad social strata are called
FOLK ASTRONOMICAL OBSERVATORIES
The first in Bulgaria National Astronomical Observatory is in Stara Zagora!
It was officially opened on February 26, 1961 - the year of the flight of the first astronaut on planet Earth, so Yuri Gagarin became its patron.
The National Astronomical Observatory in Stara Zagora was awarded a state award
Medal in the name of Cyril and Methodius I degree and Plaque of Sofia University "Kliment Ohridski" for the most significant contribution to the discovery and orientation of young people to physics, astronomy and science.
The People's Astronomical Observatory in Stara Zagora has its own public lobby through the Gemma Club of Amateur Astronomers, registered as an NGO.
Between 1978 and 1994, the Observatory had a starry hall equipped with a planetarium to demonstrate the starry sky.
Since 2011, the Center for Solar and Solar-Earth Monitoring has been giving daily forecasts for space weather at the Observatory.
