Ancient rock tomb Hambar Kaya
Overview
Thracian rock tomb Hambar Kaya is located 700-800 m northwest of the village of Vodenicharsko, at the foot of the hill on which rises the fortress Ustra.
In the southwestern part of Hambar Kaya rock, two tombs have been cut, located 6.50 m from each other.
The first rock tomb has an open vestibule, which is a stepped platform with a width of 2.60 m, which gradually narrows to 1 m inwards. With this width it continues for another 1 m inwards, and at the last 20 cm it narrows and passes into a niche 1.80 m high, vaulted at the top, 1.32 m wide at the bottom. Both sides of the niche are not vertical, but are slightly inclined inside. The lower part is cut by a low entrance with a niche width of 1.32 m.
The second rock tomb consists of a long, open and sloping vestibule, carved as a platform, the front of which is 134 cm wide. 90 cm inwards the passage leading to the tomb is already narrowed by 20 cm. it narrows further and then becomes 136 cm wide again. Thus, the whole vestibule is 174 cm long in total. The entrance to the entrance of the chamber is about 1 m high, as can be deduced from its preserved part on the south-eastern side. The chamber itself is 2.60 m long along its central longitudinal axis. The rock tombs date from the Early Iron Age 12-11 century BC.
