Agushevi konatsi
Overview
Agushevi Konatsi near the village of Mogilitsa, Smolyan municipality are an architectural and artistic monument of national importance since 1964. They are the largest preserved feudal ensemble in the Rhodopes. They are a testament to the traditions in the construction and architecture of the aristocratic late medieval dwelling. Due to its impressive appearance, the konak is often compared to a feudal castle without an analogue on the Balkan Peninsula. It was built in the early nineteenth century by 3 masters for Salih Aga and his 3 sons. At the end of the twentieth century it was restored and turned into an ethnographic museum. After restitution in 2001, the Agush mansions were returned to Salih Aga's heirs. Before the construction of the lodgings in Mogilitsa in the neighboring Chereshovo in the period 1780 - 1810, Salih Aga built another smaller feudal complex, which is not preserved today. The complex of buildings in Mogilitsa was built in about 20 years by local craftsmen. The first part was completed in 1825, and the second in 1843. The last one is evidenced by an inscription on a stone slab placed above the entrance above one of the buildings - "1258 in the Aegir". The lodgings were restored by arch. Georgi Labov. Agusheva Konatsi is an architectural ensemble of two representative residential buildings and outbuildings. They are built to form 3 separate courtyards, isolated from each other by internal walls. All buildings in the konak have a total of 221 windows, 86 doors and 24 chimneys.
