Overview

Pchelina is a dam in Western Bulgaria, built in the 70s of the last century. Its name comes from the village of Pchelintsi, which was forcibly evicted in order for the dam to be constructed. Subsequently, the locals built a monument to indicate where the village was. A medieval church has survived, built on a rock rising above the dam.

During the socialism, Greece had repeatedly complained that the dirty water of the Struma River flows into their territory. Therefore, a septic tank was built on the river Struma. As a result, large amounts of sediment have accumulated at the bottom of the dam. The depth of the dam is over 18 meters.

There are holiday rentals on the shore, as well as an entertainment complex with swimming pools and a disco.
