Overview

The Vladishki Bridge over the Yantra River is located in the Assenov district of Veliko Tarnovo and is considered one of the oldest bridges in the city.

The bridge has massive stone foundations and a wooden structure. According to some historians, there were defensive towers on both sides of the bridge. It was built in 1774 and connected the left bank inhabited by Bulgarians and Turks (Tsarevets Fortress, Holy Forty Martyrs Church, Saints Peter and Paul Church) and the right bank (Trapezitsa Fortress, St. George Temple, St. Dimitar Temple). Until 1935 it was the only bridge in Asenova mahala on which the road from Tarnovo to the village of Arbanassi passed. The Epiphany Cross is thrown from the bridge into the Yantra River. Due to the beautiful views, the bridge is also a favorite place for lovers. As a sign of eternal love, many padlocks are locked there.

In 2012, the wooden elements of the bridge were completely renovated, the metal parts were treated against corrosion.
