Estuary of Veleka River
Overview
Veleka River leaves Turkey to travel approximately 150 kilometers, 120 of which are on our territory, and to flow into the Black Sea near Sinemorets. The estuary of Veleka River in the Bulgarian territory is an extremely beautiful place, perhaps even more beautiful than that of the Ropotamo River.
At Sinemorets Strandzha river Veleka is over 50 meters wide and over 8 meters deep. About 3 km from its mouth the river narrows, and on both sides rise green hills, whose forests reach the very shore. Large elms, ashes, walnuts, lindens and many other types of trees make the floodplain of the river extremely diverse. A sandy beach, about 800 meters long and about 100 meters wide, pushed the mouth of the river to the northern end of the wide open bay.
