Overview

Tuteva House is a Revival house in Panagyurishte.
The original building is a plank dwelling from the 17th century, which was burnt down after the Kardzhali invasions from the end of the 18th and the beginning of the 19th century. Then the ground floor was restored and expanded, and in 1875 the house was built in the form preserved to this day. It was painted by Ivan Markov Galabov. Its owner, Ivan Tutev, was a craftsman, merchant and revolutionary, a participant in the April Uprising. His house is Georgi Benkovski's last residence in the city. After the arrival of the courier with the bloody letter that Koprivshtitsa had revolted, the leaders, led by Benkovski and Panayot Volov, decided to raise the April Uprising. The four apostles come out of this house - Benkovski, Volov, Zahari Stoyanov and Georgi Ikonomov. In 1947 the heirs of Ivan Tutev donated the house to the town of Panagyurishte for a museum. In the 1950s its first partial restoration was carried out, and in 1975-1976 - the second by architect Petar Dikidjiev. In the period 1988-1991 a major restoration of the house was carried out under the direction of architect Kirilka Geneva, and the frescoes were restored by Zdislav Karchevski.
